Jolly Molly the Clown began her career as Kathy Hunt, an actress and opera singer in Los Angeles, California. She is a graduate of Hollywood High School.
She made her operatic debut in 1968 Los Angeles Opera Guild, Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, where she sang the First Lady in "The Magic Flute". She won the San Francisco Opera Auditions, West Coast Regional Finals in 1969 and was a participant in the Merola Program for Young Singers in San Francisco.
She attended several colleges in the LA area including LACC, Cal State Northridge, Occidental Summer Drama Festival and Immaculate Heart College. She performed in many plays and musicals. Her BA is in Theatre Arts with a Minor in Music from Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles. She attended UCLA Opera Workshop and was soprano soloist at the First United Methodist Church of Hollywood, Valley Beth Shalom (Encino), Wilshire Boulevard Temple (Los Angeles), St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Whittier), and made many guest appearances in churches in California, Oregon, and Arizona.
Kathy married and moved to Oregon in 1974. She worked mainly as a secretary for an insurance company, area law firms, OEA, and at the University of Portland School of Engineering. She continued to perform at the Portland Civic Theatre where she portrayed Mother Abbess in "Sound of Music", she sang with Portland Opera for three seasons, and she performed "Macie" in Shanghaied in Astoria.
Kathy (now Gordon), combined her talents and experience to create “Jolly Molly the Clown” in 1980. She worked hard to establish a market for children’s entertainment in Portland, and she set a high standard for face painting and makeup art.
Kathy moved to Seaside five years ago to pursue a life of ease and semi-retirement, but it didn’t quite work out that way. She is working just as much as she ever did and driving three times more than before! Her other life roles include serving as president of Northwest Performing Arts, Inc. (www.nwperformingarts.org) in Seaside, and as an instructor for AARP Driver Safety classes. She also plays the organ for a small church in Astoria, and has two dogs, Happy (a rough collie) and Wyatt (a yellow lab).
When not performing, she enjoys photography, travelling, spending time with friends, and walking her dogs.
